Set of Six Antique French Ironstone plates "Chanteurs"Blue Bird Decor
Celebrate the enduring beauty of antique French tableware with this desirable set of six Terre de Fer small dinner plates, each decorated with exquisite blue transferware "Chanteurs" design of birds and flowers. Each plate is unique in design with slight variations, not all have the Terre De Fer stamp but they all have the same production codes 4CK, this collection offers a wonderfully balanced yet varied tablescape that feels both curated and effortlessly elegant.
Crafted from durable French ironstone, these plates embody the timeless appeal of Terre de Fer, a material prized throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries for its strength, practicality and refined appearance. Each design captures songbirds perched amongst blossoming branches, accompanied by delicate butterflies and framed with a dainty floral border. The subtle variation between the scenes creates visual interest while maintaining a beautifully harmonious collection.
Authentically stamped “Terre de Fer” on the base. Please note that as is common with 19th-century French production, some plates carry the full underglaze stamp while others do not. They are a perfectly matched, genuine set from the same original kiln run.. these plates have stood the test of time and carry the gentle signs of generations of use. One of the plates display light tea staining, a characteristic often found in antique ironstone that has developed naturally over the decades. This soft patina enhances their authenticity and vintage charm without distracting from the crisp transferware or their decorative appeal.
Whether styled on a farmhouse dining table, displayed on open shelving, or added to a growing collection of antique French ceramics, this versatile set brings history, character and understated elegance into the home.
Value Note: Finding a complete, matched set of six 19th-century Chanteurs plates is increasingly rare. Sourced individually, these plates retail for £25–£35 each (a total value of up to £210). This curated set offers excellent value for collectors and a complete look for your table or wall display.
Condition
Very good antique condition overall. One of the plates have light tea staining consistent with age and use, which does not detract from their overall beauty or display appeal. General age-related wear is present, as expected for antique tableware. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
